I love polka dots! To me polka dots equal a little bit of
happiness. When I see polka dots I can't help but smile. :) Black with white or red with white polka dots are my favorite but I like all polka dots. A few weeks ago, I was visiting my mom when she handed me a bag and said this just looked like you. I opened it to find a polka dot tea pot and matching butter dish. I LOVE them! I have them on my counter and it makes me smile when I walk by.</div>

I spent last weekend creating felt fruits and vegetables for
school. I created farm stand visuals this summer but when I was gathering my
materials to bring to school realized I needed more fruits and vegetables for
my farm stand. Play fruits and veggies
can be expensive so I found some felt food tutorials and went to work creating.
I created pears, apples, bananas, oranges, tomatoes, broccoli, carrots, corn
and pumpkins. It took me a long time but I was so happy with the results. <o:p></o:p>I brought my finished felt foods and farm stand visuals to school on Wednesday. My paraprofessionals helped me build our farm stand. I was so pleased, it turned out just like I envisioned. The best part was the reaction from the students, they loved it! One of my three year olds exclaimed, "This is amazing!" That totally made the hours of sewing, turning and stuffing worth it. The farm stand visuals are in my TPT shop <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Farm-Stand-Dramatic-Play-Fruits-vegetables-flowers-2032792" target="_blank">here</a>.</div>

<span style="font-size: 13.5pt; line-height: 107%;">It's
October so that means it's time for zombie dolls. This year the theme for Val's
zombie doll swap was primitive zombies. See what everyone made <a href="http://yarnigrasswapperspot.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">here</a>. (Seriously go look - Kerry made an awesome creepy zombie.) My partner has young children and likes
cute zombies not scary ones. This is my style so I knew exactly what I wanted
to make this year. Then I was sick with a cold for a week so I didn't get
started on my creation. My original idea was going to require more time so I
went back to the drawing board and created something different. Do you ever
have a time when your creative mojo disappears and you can't create what you
want? I had to fight this little zombie into existence. </span><o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 13.5pt; line-height: 107%;"><br /></span></div>

<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 13.5pt; line-height: 107%;">A
bit of zombie soup, anyone? I tea stained my whole zombie instead of tea staining
the fabric before </span>I started creating. It looked so funny!<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 18px; line-height: 19.26px;">Actually I fought with two zombies. I used my machine to freeform stitch on colored wounds and a heart. Once I finished I hated him, so I threw him aside and made a new zombie with a combination of machine stitched and painted wounds. The hardest part was dressing a wonky looking little zombie. I’ve determined that I’m not a seamstress. If ever there is a zombie apocalypse and I have to make our clothing, my family will be the one wearing the wonky clothes. Actually I’m pretty sure we’d look like zombies if I had to make our clothing.</span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 13.5pt; line-height: 19.26px;">In the end I created a pair of jeans and a tee shirt for the zombie. Then I chopped them up a bit to show off the wounds. I named him Robbie and sent him on the way to my partner iara. He arrived safely at his new home this week.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 13.5pt; line-height: 19.26px;"><br /></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13.5pt;">After finishing the
zombie for my partner I went back to the first one I’d thrown aside and tried
to salvage him. I made the same clothes for him. They look like a set of
brothers, Robby and Ricky. I’m not sure what their story is. The silver linings
part of me thinks they were just cute little zombies that were adopted because
“Zombies are people too.” Of course if you’re a cynic you might think they were
zombie activists, protesting for zombie rights, who met a bad ending. I think
I’ll stick with the silver lining version.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13.5pt;">Now that Ricky’s been
hanging out at my house for a week he’s grown on me and I’ve decided to add him
to my zombie horde. I think it’s time to set up the zombie horde on the
mantle again. :)<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0wtaRBFDo24/VggcLmiWcgI/AAAAAAAANik/TuDgR489c_o/s1600/2014-02-24%2B14.14.11.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0wtaRBFDo24/VggcLmiWcgI/AAAAAAAANik/TuDgR489c_o/s320/2014-02-24%2B14.14.11.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Do you remember when I posted about my furniture refinishing challenge? I posted it <a href="http://lifewithnaturegirl.blogspot.com/2014/02/a-challenge.html" target="_blank">here</a>. I bought this buffet at a thrift store for $40 with the intention of refinishing it myself.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-SIjJ7HDnOjY/VggcJoYPjRI/AAAAAAAANiU/niGzGkUh4y0/s1600/2014-02-25%2B19.53.04.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-SIjJ7HDnOjY/VggcJoYPjRI/AAAAAAAANiU/niGzGkUh4y0/s320/2014-02-25%2B19.53.04.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KrwkJyU4ouo/VggcKJjgmBI/AAAAAAAANiY/Wy3we2kFEkU/s1600/2014-02-25%2B19.53.25.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KrwkJyU4ouo/VggcKJjgmBI/AAAAAAAANiY/Wy3we2kFEkU/s320/2014-02-25%2B19.53.25.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
My husband didn't think I could do it and I was sure I could. My husband challenged me to refinish this piece all by myself. I accepted the challenge and got right to work sanding it all down. Then I got nervous about trying to stain it myself. I was afraid I'd ruin it, so I didn't touch it for a year and a half. My husband and daughter complained that it was taking up room in the garage. This month my husband stained it and applied polyurethane for me.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-N9TREUjbRsg/VggcM1urj7I/AAAAAAAANis/aRoY1sb68uI/s1600/2015-09-26%2B14.53.32.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-N9TREUjbRsg/VggcM1urj7I/AAAAAAAANis/aRoY1sb68uI/s320/2015-09-26%2B14.53.32.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The buffet fits perfectly in our dining room. Here's the finished project and my concession of defeat. "You were right honey, and I was wrong. I didn't finish it all by my self." And just for good measure "Honey, you are way better at refinishing furniture than I am. Thank you for finishing this piece, it looks great!"<br />
I'd like to say this defeat will mean I won't drag home any additional pieces of furniture, but I know that's not true. Instead I'll say, next time I drag home an awesome piece of furniture let's work on it together.jillytacyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15621855217136876048noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8820319837974410302.post-737085555898867682015-09-02T18:47:00.000-04:002015-09-02T18:47:25.317-04:00I Have Great Friends!I got home from school today to find happy mail. My friend Kerry sent me this happy package.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TlN9hGtepuw/Ved2o8bXY2I/AAAAAAAANg0/zlCo-Pn0ffY/s1600/2015-09-02%2B17.21.54.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TlN9hGtepuw/Ved2o8bXY2I/AAAAAAAANg0/zlCo-Pn0ffY/s320/2015-09-02%2B17.21.54.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I love polkadots so this package made my day.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-M4jYhdH3r_I/Ved2pVucksI/AAAAAAAANg4/QkbpprY5bvk/s1600/2015-09-02%2B17.24.48.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-M4jYhdH3r_I/Ved2pVucksI/AAAAAAAANg4/QkbpprY5bvk/s320/2015-09-02%2B17.24.48.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<br />
Then I opened the package to find 5 aprons that Kerry had sewn. She gave them to me to use in my preschool classroom. I'm so excited, they are already packed in my bag to take to school tomorrow.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EIZVpDXp7FQ/Ved3sPt3BvI/AAAAAAAANhE/cFE_oKfXfFA/s1600/2015-09-02%2B17.23.43.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EIZVpDXp7FQ/Ved3sPt3BvI/AAAAAAAANhE/cFE_oKfXfFA/s320/2015-09-02%2B17.23.43.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<br />
Kerry also made the most amazing cloth notebook for me. Guess what? (squeals of happiness) It's got a red and white polkadot fabric on the inside. I just love it!!!!! I can't wait to start filling it with notes. Once I fill the notebook, the cover is removable so I can move it to another notebook and start again.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here's a belated look at the birthday goodies Kerry sent me. A zombie pearler bead coaster, an altered notepad and pen, a sewing thread catcher and pincushion(this is my constant companion when I'm sewing) and this amazing little zombie.</div>

<br />
A few years ago I started seeing DIY car garbage bags or as I call them carbage bags popping up on blogs. I knew I needed to make some. As a mom my car seems to fill up with straw wrappers and trash so a carbage bag is a must. I've made a few over the years but I found that the fabric got wet or yucky after awhile. I thought there had to be a better way to make carbage bags, then I discovered a roll of black plastic sheeting in the paint aisle at Home Depot. I started sewing a layer of the black plastic sheeting into the carbage bag and the problem was solved.<br />
Last week I was showing some friends how to make plastic lined carbage bags. I decided to write out directions so I created a quick tutorial. It takes me about 15 minutes to make a carbage bag so they're quick and easy to make. Here's a link for <a href="http://www.tacy.org/tutorials/CarbageBagTutorial.pdf" target="_blank"><span style="color: blue;">the tutorial.</span></a><br />

</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
This month the craft along theme over at Yarnigras Swapper Spot is independence or in other words, doing something you've wanted to do. My list of projects that I want to do is massive and my collection of projects I have started but have not completed . . . well that is way to long to talk about! Since it's summer my craft room and I have been spending some time together getting reaquainted. I seem to forget how much I enjoy time spent in my craft room until I start crafting again. Now I'm back in my craft room creating and finishing up some projects. Just look at what I've made.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GgXCbKklI2I/VbD6KzZgXII/AAAAAAAANfM/bPPxISCWxwo/s1600/2015-07-23%2B09.00.51.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GgXCbKklI2I/VbD6KzZgXII/AAAAAAAANfM/bPPxISCWxwo/s320/2015-07-23%2B09.00.51.jpg" width="306" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
A few years ago I went to a workshop in Boston, one of the other workshop participants had an amazing scarf made from neckties. I loved it! I found the <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/lilianasterfield" target="_blank">designer</a> through a little research online but at $70 the scarves were too expensive for me. (I should have bought one, I looked them up again today, they're $150 now.) Granted they are unique and beautiful creations but I just couldn't bring myself to buy one for that price so I found a couple scarves at a thrift shop and thought I'd see what I could create. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_WspBroOID4/VbD6QqUS5nI/AAAAAAAANfY/mq2cAs8-6-A/s1600/2015-07-23%2B09.57.35.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="254" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_WspBroOID4/VbD6QqUS5nI/AAAAAAAANfY/mq2cAs8-6-A/s320/2015-07-23%2B09.57.35.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="-webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; clear: both; color: black; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; orphans: auto; text-align: center; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: 1; word-spacing: 0px;">
</div>
<br />
<div style="-webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; color: black; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; orphans: auto; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: 1; word-spacing: 0px;">
Creating necktie scarves was harder than I thought it would be. I created the black one but I wasn't totally happy with it. I had pinned together a second necktie scarf but gave up on it after I didn't like the first. I stuck them in a drawer, pins and all, and forgot about them. I pulled the yellow and blue one out of my craft stash earlier this week determined to pull all of the pins out of it. On a whim I decided to take a few minutes to sew it together before removing the pins. I also re-finished the end of the black tie that I didn't like. Here's the finished product. They're nothing like the amazing creations the orignial designer makes but I like how they turned out and I completed an unfinished project that sat in a drawer for two years. . . yay for me!</div>
<div style="-webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; color: black; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px; orphans: auto; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: 1; word-spacing: 0px;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-524bCRwyXgI/VbD6QZWqODI/AAAAAAAANfU/WwwO2Q7efds/s1600/2015-07-23%2B09.58.37.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-524bCRwyXgI/VbD6QZWqODI/AAAAAAAANfU/WwwO2Q7efds/s320/2015-07-23%2B09.58.37.jpg" width="192" /></a></div>
<br />
I also pulled out a stitchery that I had finished a couple of years but hadn't done anything with. I loved the stitchery but couldn't decide what to do with it so it sat forgotten for years. Not any more, using some scrap fabric I sewed it into a little pillow. Another unfinished project done. :) I feel so accomplished!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9e2pjgmYgpE/VbD6Q75B5eI/AAAAAAAANfg/btGTvFOdBSU/s1600/2015-07-23%2B09.58.48.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9e2pjgmYgpE/VbD6Q75B5eI/AAAAAAAANfg/btGTvFOdBSU/s320/2015-07-23%2B09.58.48.jpg" width="233" /></a></div>
<br />
This is my favorite bag pattern, it's reversible. I have several of these bags and often give them as gifts. I even use one as my school bag, it's the perfect size. I decided to cut out a few of these bags using fabrics from my stash. I finished this one and another one this week and I have a crafting date with a friend next week to sew up the rest.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-nc_X-VwUzsk/VbD6RydwCuI/AAAAAAAANfs/jPYZH1uV2B0/s1600/2015-07-23%2B09.59.35.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-nc_X-VwUzsk/VbD6RydwCuI/AAAAAAAANfs/jPYZH1uV2B0/s320/2015-07-23%2B09.59.35.jpg" width="124" /></a></div>
<br />
Lastly, I made a carbage bag for my neighbor. As moms, we always end up with trash and wrappers in the car when we're transporting kids around, so a carbabge bag is a necessity. I started lining these with some black plastic sheeting I found at Home Depot. It works perfectly to keep the fabric from getting wet or stained from the trash.<br />

<br />
Summer vacation is a great time for school teachers. It's a time to recharge, create and just enjoy some time at home. Every summer since my daughter was little we've created a summer fun list. It's the list of the fun things we want to do over summer vacation. Years ago we created one list for the two of us but a few years ago we started creating our own lists. Here's my 2015 summer fun list. I make my list pretty generic because it's meant to be fun. I've printed it out so I can check off items as I complete them but it's not a have to do list, so there's no guilt if things don't get checked off.<br />
Now it's time to have some summer fun! Yay for summer!jillytacyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15621855217136876048noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8820319837974410302.post-34935665240066921092015-02-24T18:00:00.000-05:002015-02-24T18:00:01.340-05:00Long Time No Craft<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="text-align: center;">I recently entered a graduate program to get ELL certified. I'm still teaching full time and started taking taking my first graduate course in January. It's been a long time since I've taken a graduate course and to be honest I've never taken one during the school year while I'm still teaching.</span> I've mostly completed courses during the summer. It's a lot of reading and a lot of work but it's very interesting.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-z-wwvxVtiYg/VOqOMzU84GI/AAAAAAAANXQ/ZVB4vsqqr5k/s1600/2015-02-22%2B21.18.00-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-z-wwvxVtiYg/VOqOMzU84GI/AAAAAAAANXQ/ZVB4vsqqr5k/s1600/2015-02-22%2B21.18.00-1.jpg" height="320" width="267" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">The toughest part is that my graduate course now takes up the time I used for crafting and reading for pleasure. I'm a teacher so I read all the time however, I've always enjoyed reading just for pure entertainment and enjoyment. I love a good science fiction teen read, but it feels like I've haven't read a good book in forever. Instead I'm reading professional books and articles on language acquisition. Interesting stuff but it requires brain power and isn't reading for pleasure. This week I'm on winter break so I've decided to complete a craft or two and I'll be reading a book just for the pure enjoyment of reading. I've participated in the Goodreads book challenge for the last three years and have read 25 books each year. I'm participating again this year but I lowered my goal for this year. I hope to read 15 books in 2015. So far I've read three, but the good new is I have a couple picked out to start reading this week.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">I participated in the February craft along over at Yarnigras Swapper Spot. <span style="background-color: white; line-height: 20.7999992370605px;"> </span><span style="background-color: white; line-height: 20.7999992370605px;">I created a zombie flower drink cozy using recycled wool coats and the cuff from a wool sweater. I know the point of this month's challenge was to create a coffee cozy to keep your hands warm. I love a good hot chocolate like anyone else, but I'm tired of winter and snow!! We've had over six feet of snow since January first. I just want to think spring, warm days and unsweetened ice tea. My zombie flower was created with these warm spring thoughts in mind. Maybe now that the first undead flower has bloomed, spring will finally come! Alas, wishful thinking!</span></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1p_2Kau1Brc/VOqK2CVlIdI/AAAAAAAANW8/kHkzjaUH0Fc/s1600/2015-02-21%2B11.13.23-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1p_2Kau1Brc/VOqK2CVlIdI/AAAAAAAANW8/kHkzjaUH0Fc/s1600/2015-02-21%2B11.13.23-1.jpg" height="320" width="270" /></a></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<span style="font-family: inherit;">I also bought some small clothespins and created these little spacemen. </span> I just used wooden clothespins, a thin Sharpie and twistable colored pencils to create these little guys but it feels great to be crafting again. <span style="font-family: inherit;">I teach the Handwriting Without Tears curriculum to my four and five year olds at school. We're working on writing within the lines and spacing our letters. I thought these spacemen might help a few of the kids but I didn't want to leave anyone out so I made enough for the whole class. Maybe I'll get to sneak in another project before my break is over.</span>jillytacyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15621855217136876048noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8820319837974410302.post-71760473388060554442015-02-22T21:04:00.002-05:002015-02-22T21:04:26.026-05:00 Snow, Snow, Snow!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We live in New England, where it snows every winter. As New Englanders we are use to cold, snowy conditions. Winter started out fairly mild this year, in fact we had a green Christmas. Then January came and with it came the snow. We have been burried under 80+ inches of snow during the last two months. We can't really complain because we choose to live in New England and snow is part of living here, however I'm ready for a break from snow.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Check out these icicles on the house. They were bigger, but they melted quite a bit today.</div>

<br />
This is the gate to the pool. Just beyond the fence you can see all of the snow on the roof of the gazebo. You can't even tell where the pool is for all of the snow in the backyard. Honestly, I've forgotten what my backyard looks like without three feet of snow covering it. With all this snow you can see why I'm looking forward to spring arriving. So think happy spring thoughts!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Being a pet owner isn't always easy; let's face it pets can be expensive. Of course, sweet moments like this make it worth every cent. Here's Chinky riding in the car with his girl, they are so sweet together! </div>

I love this picture. Sun bathing in the temperature controlled house is Chunky's favorite pasttime. He will follow the sun around the house, sleeping in the sun all afternoon. He actually gets a reverse tan from all the sun bathing. Since he's black to start with, his chest and belly turn brown from laying in the sun.jillytacyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15621855217136876048noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8820319837974410302.post-7028305686946934042015-01-04T07:00:00.000-05:002015-01-04T07:00:05.867-05:00Crafty Freak Project Catch Up . . . Again!<div style="text-align: center;">
To start the year off right I wanted to get caught up on my Crafty Freaks projects. I've been crafting, I just haven't been posting the pictures. I'd like to think that I'll do a better job posting pictures in the new year, but honestly I probably won't. That means there will be a few more Crafty Freak Project catch up posts to look forward to in 2015.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here's what I've been creating:</div>

My girl loves her holidays, so at the end of September, she started requesting that we pull out the Halloween decorations. We pulled everything out to start getting the house decorated. To our surprise, Kerry sent us a Halloween package to get us into the Halloween spirit. She sent this great Halloween bag that she made from a tee shirt.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-LQzy5JNAvn4/VEWmRrn1F5I/AAAAAAAALdk/SlNheNIfN3A/s1600/2014-10-01%2B19.29.48.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-LQzy5JNAvn4/VEWmRrn1F5I/AAAAAAAALdk/SlNheNIfN3A/s1600/2014-10-01%2B19.29.48.jpg" height="320" width="180" /></a></div>
<br />
Kerry also sent these amazing bride and groom zombie cookies. We celebrated our 14th wedding anniversary the day before they arrived so we thought this was a great treat. Thanks Kerry!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I participated in the zombie challenge over at Yarnigras Swapper Spot, so Val sent me a package of Halloween goodies! Thanks Val! I can't wait to try the homemade blueberry jam on my toast tomorrow morning.</div>

<br />
<br />
For the zombie challenge I decided that I wanted to try my hand at paperclay. I've wanted to use paperclay for a couple of years now but have been nervous about trying it. I procrastinated on this zombie project because I afraid to use the paperclay. I had a picture in my head for a couple of years now but wasn't sure I could create it. I really shouldn't have been so worried. The paperclay was awesome and easy to use. I covered a styrofoam ball and an oval to create the body. I used wire, aluminum foil and masking tape to create the arms and wings.<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It took a few days to fully dry, but here's my finished project. It's a zom-bee! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This project works out to be a two-fer. It was for the zombie challenge and it's my Crafty Freaks project for this week. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I added my zom-bee to the zombie horde, which is currently housed on the fireplace mantle. I'll move the zombie horde back to my bookshelves after Halloween. It's one big happy zombie family!</div>

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KQ-fh_-m11A/VCSeQkSJVUI/AAAAAAAAKqA/R0NqF9TVNGI/s1600/2014-09-25%2B18.42.45.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KQ-fh_-m11A/VCSeQkSJVUI/AAAAAAAAKqA/R0NqF9TVNGI/s1600/2014-09-25%2B18.42.45.jpg" height="320" width="234" /></a></div>
<br />
Have you seen this doggy treat container? I've seen it in the grocery store several times but just kept walking because it was $8 for this little jar of treats. Ridiculous, right?! This weekend I found it at my local Sam's Club in a package for $3. The package had the piggy treat jar and two bags of treats to refill the little pig. I felt like I was getting an amazing deal. Three dollars for the treats alone is a steal but what I didn't know was that this little piggy would provide entertainment for the whole family.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wI7f9ZcY1RE/VCSeQndWiFI/AAAAAAAAKp8/pScfrc3r4lQ/s1600/2014-09-25%2B18.43.02.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wI7f9ZcY1RE/VCSeQndWiFI/AAAAAAAAKp8/pScfrc3r4lQ/s1600/2014-09-25%2B18.43.02.jpg" height="320" width="189" /></a></div>
<br />
You push the pig's nose in, put a treat on it and wait. The pig's nose pops out and makes the treat fly. Chunky loves to play fetch, so fetching flying treats is right up his alley. Actually, we all love to watch the treats fly and see Chunky chase them down. Here's Chunky waiting for me to load up the pig's nose. The package does have a warning about not giving your dog too many treats, I thought that was silly but now that we've played with it I see why they put the warning on it. It's doggy fun for us all! The girl wants to keep the pig container once we use up all the treats. I think Chunky would be sad to see it retired.jillytacyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15621855217136876048noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8820319837974410302.post-27444299862632952932014-09-21T12:00:00.000-04:002014-09-21T12:00:04.257-04:00Crafty Freaks Project #6 Flying SquirrelI finished project # 6 f<span style="font-family: inherit;">or <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/minxvintage/crafty-freaks/" target="_blank">Crafty Freaks(<span style="background-color: #e9e9e9; color: #6c6c6c; line-height: 26px; text-align: center;">#52weeksforcraftyfreaks)</span></a></span>. I made a flying squirrel using <a href="http://sewing.craftgossip.com/?o4R6cIh3" target="_blank">this tutorial</a> I found over at <a href="http://sewing.craftgossip.com/?o4R6cIh3" target="_blank">The Wild Olive</a>. <a href="https://whileshenaps.com/" target="_blank">Abby Glassenberg </a>is the pattern designer. The tutorial is easy to follow and the squirrel they made turned out really cute. I wanted to create a flying squirrel to go with the kit I made for the story <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Scaredy-Squirrel-M%C3%A9lanie-Watt-ebook/dp/B006LTD830/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1411236432&sr=1-1&keywords=scaredy+squirrel" target="_blank">Scaredy Squirrel</a> by Melanie Watts. I read this book to my preschoolers in October so when I saw this free pattern the other day, I knew I wanted to try making it. Scaredy squirrel is brown so I used a fuzzy tan fleece I had on hand. This type of fleece was a lot stretchier than I expected so it was a bit hard to work with. In the end I think his head ended up a bit too small but that was my fault, since the fabric wasn't cooperating with me. I have some regular gray fleece that would probably work better. I also messed up his feet a bit, but again my fault because I was taking shortcuts. I added a toothy smile too but since I've been in zombie mode I may have made it a little to toothy so he looks a bit more like a scary squirrel not Scaredy Squirrel. I think he'd make a great dog toy, but since Chunky had to have an expensive surgery after eating a stuffed aardvark last spring he no longer gets fabric toys. I did mysteriously lose two felt squirrel feet after I cut them out. I'm not pointing fingers but Chunky does sit under my chair while I sew, so he may have had a quick little fabric snack.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0KI96zowFvk/VB3djLJMAII/AAAAAAAAKeg/5dxfDeGkFGU/s1600/2014-09-20%2B19.44.20.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0KI96zowFvk/VB3djLJMAII/AAAAAAAAKeg/5dxfDeGkFGU/s1600/2014-09-20%2B19.44.20.jpg" height="226" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Actually this little squirrel is growing on me. He is compact enough to fit into my Scaredy Squirrel kit. I guess I need to attach him to the parachute in the kit to see if he looks scary parachuting down to the floor. My daughter has already claimed him if I decide he's too scary to for my preschoolers. <i>Note: With my daughter's help we just tested it out I don't think he'll scare my preschoolers. After further testing we believe he won't even need a parachute because he really does fly</i>.</div>

A few years back I covered an old first aid kit with white duck tape to create Scaredy Squirrel's emergency kit. I included some of the props from the book in the emergency kit.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Since I decided to keep my little flying squirrel, my daughter decided she needed to create one too. She cut out the pattern pieces herself and together we sewed everything together to create this little blue squirrel. As we were making it, I kept thinking about turning it into a bat. After we finished the blue squirrel I modified the pattern and attempted to create a flying bat. This is the prototype, the pictures are a little dark but I think you get the idea. I tried to make the arms look a bit more like wings. Like the squirrel, he will fly across the room and would be great for a Halloween game or just some batty fun around the house. My daughter pointed out that if it was made in brown, it could even be used for the story Stellaluna. Can you tell she's a teacher's kid? </div>

With Halloween just around the corner we may need to whip up a few more of these to give to the nieces and nephews for Halloween. We have another one cut out for my daughter to sew, afterall every blue flying squirrel needs a flying bat friend!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
My daughter was outside playing in the neighborhood this morning, so I was in my craft room sewing. She came running in the house accompanied by children from the neighborhood yelling "Your zombie is here!" It makes me wonder if my mail carrier and the neighborhood children think I'm a crazy lady. It's okay, I don't care my zombie package arrived!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
You have to love it when a zombie decorated package arrives in your kitchen!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZNe7OqwkHaw/VB22lgn8HEI/AAAAAAAAKb8/og5uySRum_0/s1600/2014-09-20%2B12.42.49.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZNe7OqwkHaw/VB22lgn8HEI/AAAAAAAAKb8/og5uySRum_0/s1600/2014-09-20%2B12.42.49.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Everything was nicely wrapped. The kids oooed and ahhhed as I pulled out all of the items my partner Sarah sent. She spoiled me!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-18aVSxUgOzU/VB22oLUEIcI/AAAAAAAAKcU/5OX5CXZl0s4/s1600/2014-09-20%2B12.55.36.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-18aVSxUgOzU/VB22oLUEIcI/AAAAAAAAKcU/5OX5CXZl0s4/s1600/2014-09-20%2B12.55.36.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here's the whole zombie package; a Nightmare Before Christmas notebook, a zombie house filled with mini candy bars, zombie brain putty, zombie stickers, a sewing kit, ribbon, skull-shaped orange nail polish, a candycorn apron, a make your own zombie cell phone kit for my daughter(she's thrilled with it!) and an amazing Sally doll!</div>

<br />
Just look at this doll . . . she's amazing! Sarah made her from paperclay. I love the detail that went into her patchwork dress. Sally's even holding a jar of Deadly Night Shade. This was Sarah's first try at a paperclay zombie. Sarah you did an amazing job, thank you!!!!<br />

<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AtMaULJtmUg/VBiupqikhyI/AAAAAAAAKV0/Fw0NSgjivCs/s1600/2014-09-16%2B01.26.59.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AtMaULJtmUg/VBiupqikhyI/AAAAAAAAKV0/Fw0NSgjivCs/s1600/2014-09-16%2B01.26.59.jpg" height="320" width="194" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
As fall arrives so does zombie making time. Really anytime is a good time for making zombies, but in the fall Val hosts a zombie doll swap. This year the theme was animated zombies. I thought I was all set but it turns out my animated zombie movie watching was not up to par. I started out re-watching ParaNorman and Scooby-Doo Zombie Island. Then I moved on to watching The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Corpse Bride and Frankenweenie for the first time. I love Sparky from Frankenweenie!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-B7d4S-E5khQ/VBiunPGohpI/AAAAAAAAKVk/EfYpbnuy020/s1600/2014-09-06%2B17.58.07.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-B7d4S-E5khQ/VBiunPGohpI/AAAAAAAAKVk/EfYpbnuy020/s1600/2014-09-06%2B17.58.07.jpg" height="320" width="242" /></a></div>
<br />
My partner is a fan of spooky Halloween decorations and creepy zombies. I made this eyeball wreath for my partner using a feather boa, ping pong balls, googly eyes and Styrofoam balls. Creating a creepy zombie was a challenge for me; I like cute zombies. I procrastinated because I didn't even know where to start. In the end I settled on Oogie Boogie from The Nightmare Before Christmas.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2asUqGjWsmg/VBiupfvA5II/AAAAAAAAKVw/_Zkn84k3eyo/s1600/2014-09-15%2B17.57.12.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2asUqGjWsmg/VBiupfvA5II/AAAAAAAAKVw/_Zkn84k3eyo/s1600/2014-09-15%2B17.57.12.jpg" height="320" width="180" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Oogie Boogie is made with felt, fleece and burlap. He has a recessed mouth and a pocket on his stomach. I filled these spaces with crocheted intestines, a bouncy eyeball, bugs and stretchy worms. I added a couple of gashes for good measure and sent him off to my partner. I hope she likes him, of course she could always bloody him up a bit if he's not creepy enough for her.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-56DXX0Wm7OE/VBiuoi0iB4I/AAAAAAAAKVs/duMs2viyLIk/s1600/2014-09-15%2B20.48.33.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-56DXX0Wm7OE/VBiuoi0iB4I/AAAAAAAAKVs/duMs2viyLIk/s1600/2014-09-15%2B20.48.33.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Here are the goodies I included in the package; ribbon, zombie caution tape, a zombie house box, a grow a zombie, eyeball feather wreath and zombie playing cards.<br />
I think I'll join the zombie challenge posted over a Yarnigras Swapper Spot. The challenge is to create something zombie themed for yourself. I think this would qualify for my Crafty Freaks Challenge too. Now I just have to decide what to make for myself, oh the zombie filled possibilities.<br />

<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yUkaqnjFLOk/VAxnzuqIr_I/AAAAAAAAKOo/CXMC9bdFYDg/s1600/2014-09-07%2B00.18.10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yUkaqnjFLOk/VAxnzuqIr_I/AAAAAAAAKOo/CXMC9bdFYDg/s1600/2014-09-07%2B00.18.10.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I wanted a fun tape dispenser for my desk at school. I searched in stores and online during my back to school shopping but couldn't find anything. I wanted something that was easy to use with one hand and decorative at the same time. I already have several boring black Scotch tape dispensers like this one so an idea struck me; why not decorate the dispensers I have. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iqrr_KnHYhE/VAxnzbGGsrI/AAAAAAAAKOk/wBrO2sXM3m4/s1600/2014-09-07%2B01.06.26.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iqrr_KnHYhE/VAxnzbGGsrI/AAAAAAAAKOk/wBrO2sXM3m4/s1600/2014-09-07%2B01.06.26.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-AHWfhXaY66U/VAxn0TJMiWI/AAAAAAAAKO8/Q0SbrXaAGzA/s1600/2014-09-07%2B01.13.31.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-AHWfhXaY66U/VAxn0TJMiWI/AAAAAAAAKO8/Q0SbrXaAGzA/s1600/2014-09-07%2B01.13.31.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I sat down to watch a movie armed with a silver Sharpie and zentangled my boring tape dispenser. This is what I ended up with.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CSoQmLxRPk8/VAyCcjpiojI/AAAAAAAAKPo/m2zq_DqgQ70/s1600/2014-09-07%2B12.04.41.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CSoQmLxRPk8/VAyCcjpiojI/AAAAAAAAKPo/m2zq_DqgQ70/s1600/2014-09-07%2B12.04.41.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Then I used a bronze sharpie on another one of my black tape dispensers. I plan to use this dispenser on my desk at home. I did discover one thing while working on the second one. The second dispenser had a smooth black line around the middle, so it was hard to get the Sharpie to stay on that part. I think over time the design will fade on that smooth area. The Sharpie adheres well to the rest of the dispenser's matte finish so if I decorate another dispenser I would leave that smooth edge plain or better yet draw on a dispenser that doesn't have a smooth finish on it.<br />
<br />

I've been busy creating but I've been bad about posting my creations so now it's catch up time. This summer I wanted to learn how to do something new so I decided to try drawing using my computer. For my Crafty Freaks Project #3 I created this set of cupcakes to use in my classroom as a birthday display.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VKv5_PIWYpQ/VApb_C66bAI/AAAAAAAAKIY/At3X7qZL79Q/s1600/2014-07-27%2B16.13.48.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VKv5_PIWYpQ/VApb_C66bAI/AAAAAAAAKIY/At3X7qZL79Q/s1600/2014-07-27%2B16.13.48.jpg" height="114" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I was happy with how they turned out, so I printed and laminated them. Then I realized that the pink cupcakes didn't match the colors my classroom. I didn't want to change the whole color scheme in my classroom, so I remade them in black with white polka dots to match my red & black polka dot theme. I love, love, love them! They look perfect in my classroom; plus polka dots just make me happy.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vnDe7JwqfT0/VApcTtcNrHI/AAAAAAAAKIo/pqcyNPC1udo/s1600/2014-08-21%2B14.44.18.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vnDe7JwqfT0/VApcTtcNrHI/AAAAAAAAKIo/pqcyNPC1udo/s1600/2014-08-21%2B14.44.18.jpg" height="320" width="180" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I created several different colored cupcake birthday displays and put them in my <a href="http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Oh-Miss-Jill" target="_blank">Teachers Pay Teachers store</a>. I do still have a laminated set of the pink cupcakes so if you could use them for your classroom leave a comment. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2mRD67qR8s8/VApcg5aPmAI/AAAAAAAAKIw/or8rmP3AjYA/s1600/2014-08-26%2B15.33.17.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2mRD67qR8s8/VApcg5aPmAI/AAAAAAAAKIw/or8rmP3AjYA/s1600/2014-08-26%2B15.33.17.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Crafty Freaks Project #4 was a bookshelf re-do. I had this bookshelf in my classroom. We don't have a lot in the way of storage in my classroom so the fabric on this shelf hides the materials that we don't want the preschoolers to have. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xWLIvHRCz4E/VApcg7TMT5I/AAAAAAAAKI0/MbAHI4o-rdU/s1600/2014-08-26%2B15.32.54.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xWLIvHRCz4E/VApcg7TMT5I/AAAAAAAAKI0/MbAHI4o-rdU/s1600/2014-08-26%2B15.32.54.jpg" height="320" width="180" /></a></div>
<br />
We decided the shelf needed a little make over so I made two red curtains that can tie up to give the children access to the materials or we can untie the curtains and cover the shelves to limit access to materials. I added some red metal storage buckets I bought at Target a few years back to add some extra storage.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>

Crafty freaks Project #5 is a set of colored ribbons for my classroom. I'm a special ed preschool teacher so I love creating things I can use in my classroom to teach and reinforce skills. I found two sets of wooden drapery rings at a consignment shop this summer. I cut then tied four foot strands of ribbon onto the rings. I made 2 rings of each color and a set of six rainbow ribbons. We're going to have lots of fun with these.</div>

There you have it my Crafty Freaks catch up session. Now I have to decide what my next Crafty Freaks project will be. </div>

It's summertime but I'm always thinking about new things to make or use with my preschoolers. I went thrifting the other day to find some new toys for my classroom. I didn't have a lot of luck but I did find a play set of bowling pins and bowling balls. For my second <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/minxvintage/crafty-freaks/" target="_blank">Crafty Freaks project</a> I created a drawstring bag for a play bowling set I found at a local thrift store. I used some striped duck cloth and recycled wool bits to create a bag to store the bowling pins in. It was a quick project but I'm happy with how it turned out. Now I just need to make a paper template to include in the bag so the kids can set up the bowling pins independently.<br />

Today is the due date for the first Crafty Freaks Project (due date being a loosely used term as there are really no rules or due dates for the Crafty Freaks.) The goal behind Crafty Freaks is to get out there and create for the enjoyment of it. I love the idea of creating just to create with no guilt if you miss a project or really mess up on a project. I'm excited about participating.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: start;">Here's my first project for Crafty Freaks; it's a centerpiece for my dining room table. I found the idea from this</span><a href="http://www.pinterest.com/pin/348254983658572012/" style="text-align: start;" target="_blank"> pin</a><span style="text-align: start;"> on Pinterest. I love that this project used materials from my house and yard. I used a quart size mason jar, hot glue, sticks, jute rope and flowers from my yard. It took longer than I thought to glue it all together. I thought it would be a 15 minute project it took more like an hour. I love how it turned out and I didn't get any serious glue gun burns so that made me happy. Best of all I have this lovely centerpiece on my table. You can check out what some of the other Crafty Freaks are making by visiting the Crafty Freaks board on Pinterest or ( </span><a href="http://www.pinterest.com/minxvintage/crafty-freaks/" style="text-align: start;" target="_blank">click here</a><span style="text-align: start;">.)</span></div>

I'm a craft freak and I know it! If you love to craft and are looking for a project to expand your creativity or give yourself the permission to craft for the love of it, check out this post over at <span style="color: purple;"><a href="http://littleminx.wordpress.com/2014/06/27/hey-crafty-freaks/" target="_blank">Little Minx</a>.</span> Little Minx is hosting the Crafty Freaks project. The idea is to create, try something new and experiment to your crafty heart's content. It's a chance to create a new project every two weeks then share what you've accomplished(or even share an epic fail.) After all, sometimes I learn the most about crafting when I make mistake. I know that I may not be able to create something new every two weeks, especially when the school year starts again, but I'm going to try to create as often as I can. This summer, my crafting partner and I are planning to try some new projects.<br />

In fact we just made these cute little unicorn horn headbands from felt. We made these for our first summer craft project using a tutorial and pattern that we found over at <span style="background-color: white;"><span style="color: purple;"><a href="http://tikkido.com/node/998" target="_blank">Tikkido</a>.</span></span> The girls wanted to add ears to theirs.I love how they turned out!<br />

With the chaos at the end of the school year, I neglected to post pictures of a big accomplishment. My girl was part of Girls on The Run this year. She spent the spring training for a 5K.</div>
